Abstract:

This article discusses a novel framework for trust-based multidevice collaboration services. This framework opens up significant scope for applications and collaboration opportunities among heterogeneous devices mimicking human interaction. We present a topology map middleware service and a distributed querying application service that run on top of this framework. We are currently working on addressing the key challenges presented and developing new middleware, application services, and optimization techniques that leverage heterogeneous multidevice collaboration such as colocation detection, determining colocation pattern, and task offloading.

Introduction

Rapidly growing personal digital content, a wide variety of powerful personal electronic devices, multiple electronic devices per home, and advancing technology toward high-speed ubiquitous network connectivity have collectively created a tremendous need for multidevice communication and collaboration. Service-oriented architecture supporting such collaboration and content sharing defines newer paradigms of content and resource sharing among devices, located across diverse geographical regions, similar to human interaction. Hence, we investigate a cloud-based, device-agnostic framework that facilitates trusted multidevice communication and collaboration based on user inputs. Using this framework, users can share content and resources with heterogeneous devices of trusted users. In this article, we describe a proposed trust-based collaboration service framework, a distributed querying application service, and a middleware service.
