Abstract:

A simple block hand model with the size of an adult Malaysian hand is suggested to substitute the existing hand phantom of European size. The hand is set up with a Standard Anthropomorphic Mannequin (SAM) head and a candy bar mobile phone operating at GSM900/1800 using Planar Inverted-F antenna (PIFA). Both hands use the same dielectric properties of CTIA hand phantom. The result gained from simulating both hands is compared based on its maximum Specific Absorption Rate (SAR).

I. Introduction

Today's mobile phone performs in more frequency bands, but thinner and smaller in size to produce modem up-to-date design. They were developed in a shape according to the satisfaction of gripping the mobile phone for long-hours talk. Other than the outer shape, manufacturers must also consider the service performance affected by the hand grip from the functionality of the mobile phone antenna. Since the danger of mobile phone was first investigated, researchers back then measured a set up of only head phantom and mobile phone before the model is being commercialized.
