Abstract:

The Ad-hoc On-demand Distance Vector (AODV) is the most typical reactive routing protocol in MANET. It has been extensively studied through not only computer simulations but also implementations on real network. In this paper, an implementation of AODV routing protocol with multi-metric was presented. In the implementation, an Uppsala University routing protocol, AODV-UU was modified in order to apply multi-metrics. Moreover, both AODV-UU and modified AODV-UU were implemented within a Linux-based test bed: a real ad-hoc network. Finally, the performance of both protocols was evaluated experimentally.

I. Introduction

A method for providing Quality of Service (QoS) is a key technology for traffic management in MANET. There are various researches to provide QoS in MANET. The previous research for providing QoS has been studied with routing metric like hop count, ETX (Expected Transmission Rate) and ETT (Expected Transmission Time). The hop count is the base metric. It is a simple measure of the number of hops between the source and the destination in a path. The ETX is a measure of link and path quality, and the ETT is the Expected Transmission Time of a data transmission in a direct link [1], [2], [3].
