Abstract:

SCCM Advice is a free consulting service run by the Program in Scientific Computing and Computational Mathematics (SCCM) at Stanford University in California (US). Advice was started in the fall of 1995 by a senior graduate student who wanted to provide a source of information on numerical analysis and applied mathematics for the Stanford community. The service is now led by four graduate students and has consulted on a wide range of topics in scientific computing and applied mathematics. We describe the format and achievements of SCCM Advice, give example problems, and provide advice for those interested in developing their own consulting group.
