Abstract:

Electromagnetic shielding for microelectronic circuits requires electromagnetic shields of light weight and low volume. The electromagnetic shields using single [1] or multi layer [2] conductors yield optimum performance but are not suitable when the size of the electronic gadget is extremely small. Wire mesh screens [4] are the best alternative electromagnetic shields for such microelectronic circuits due to their light weight and low volume. In this paper, wire mesh screens [7] of square shape made up of different conductors are modeled mathematically, for optimum shielding performance. Several investigations were carried out for the estimation of shielding effectiveness of the considered wire mesh screen in different frequency ranges and conductive materials. The analysis presented in this paper for the determination of shielding effectiveness [1, 3] is frequency sensitive and the dimension of the mesh size is assumed extremely small compared to operating wavelength. The results presented in this paper are very much useful in the design of electromagnetic shields using square wire mesh screen for microelectronic circuits.
