Abstract:

In this paper, we present a novel hybrid deformation model, which can simulate large deformations and non-linear behaviors of soft tissues in real time. The model partitions a soft tissue into operational and non-operational regions, and simulates the large deformations by coupling the geometry constrained mesh less method FLSM (fast lattice shape matching) with finite element algorithm TLED (total Lagrangian explicit dynamics). With the virtual node cutting method, the soft tissues can be cut realistically and robustly. The virtual cutting simulation features real time performance with the GPU-based acceleration. In combination with our multi-camera based real-time modeling framework, the deformable model and its interaction of virtual cutting can be extended to support remote virtual surgery.
