Abstract:
The purpose of developing an architecture is for beneficial use of it. A good set of architectural artifacts are easy to manipulate in achieving the purpose of usage well. Systems engineering methodologies evolve to deal with SoS level problems. And DoD's JCIDS is a good example which demonstrates SoS level problems using the capability based assessment (CBA) methodology. However, the complexity of the architecture makes it difficult to develop and use the architectural artifacts. DoDAF states that it was established to guide the development of architectures and to satisfy the demands of a structured, repeatable method for evaluating the architecture. Despite its intention, much of the community felt that the core architecture data model(CADM) of DoDAF was too complex and the complexity causes unnecessary cost and risk, the architecting result has been received with weak and delayed acceptance. Additionally, the meeting of the envisioned goals have fallen short. CADM 2.0 is being developed to overcome the complexity of building and using architecture, to incorporate CBA process, and to meet the challenges of SoS problems. This paper proposes a metamodel that is less complex and that supports CBA methodology. The proposed metamodels are developed as an abstract form using MECE principles and architecting methodology based on JCIDS Overlay Protocol of DoDAF 2.0.
