Abstract:
The author summarizes the Consultative Committee for Telephony and Telegraphy (CCITT) quality-of-service activities, discusses the approach followed during the most recent study periods, and reviews the achieved results. Existing problems are identified. The need to identify the levels of quality of service offered by the service providers and to define the network performance offered by the network providers is stressed. User needs are identified. Comments are given on future CCITT quality-of-service work programs.<>
