Abstract:

The authors describe a method for calculating equivalent circuit constants of synchronous generators using open and shorted operational impedances obtained by the DC decay tests. In the proposed method, it is possible to find all constants only by a stationary test, including the armature leakage reactance. This method makes it possible to improve transient analysis accuracy on not only the armature side current but also the field side. Especially the issue of field current error can be resolved. The validity of the proposed method is demonstrated by a sudden three-phase short-circuit test on a salient laminated pole machine of 10 kVA-200 V-31.9 A-4 P-50 Hz.
