Abstract:

Continuous phase modulations (CPM) have a perfectly constant envelope and are inherently robust against analog front-end nonidealities. Therefore, they have recently been proposed for several modern wireless standards. In this paper, we further develop an existing high-performance frequency domain equalization approach for CPM signals. First, we introduce a polyphase matrix model, valid for any block-based CPM system, which has clear advantages compared to existing models. Second, the model is used to reduce the complexity of the existing minimum mean square error channel equalizer. The proposed technique can be applied to any CPM scheme. Simulation results in a 60 GHz environment confirm that it does not cause any noticeable performance degradation.
