Abstract:
We have proposed a new communication technology named “Two-Dimensional Communication (TDC).” The TDC corresponds to the physical layer of the OSI reference model. Microwaves propagate within a two dimensional medium for achieving both signal transmission and power supply. The technology enables sensor nodes touching on the TDC sheet to communicate with each other without individual wires and batteries. Since the sheet can be achieved with soft conductive materials, the sensors can be arrayed on a stretchable and flexible medium. One possible application of the TDC is 2D myoelectric pattern measurement. The myoelectric signal is the signal that can be measured when the muscle contraction occurs. Thus we can predict finger motions if we observe the 2D myoelectric patterns precisely on the forearm. We demonstrate our prototype system. The sensors that detect myoelectric signals can be activated with microwave supplied through the TDC sheet. Measured data is also transmitted through the sheet.
