Abstract:

Herbert Simon's early work in computer science focused on how and why he came to understand the computer, the organization, and the individual mind as being "species of the genus information processor." To him these three were alike because they were, essentially, both organisms and bureaucracies. Part 2 of this article examines Simon's important work in computer science of the 1950s, including cognitive science and Al.
