Abstract:
Speech as a result of natural language processing provides a natural, efficient and flexible means of user interaction with computers in a messaging and communication environment. In discussing several spoken language data entry and database query prototype models, this report discusses examples from two very different domains: 1) sophisticated applications such as direct voice input/direct voice control (DVI/DVC), the personalized speech piloting system in Europe's newest military aircraft, the Eurofighter/Typhoon by EADS and 2) business-to-business electronic commerce (B2B EC). Whether B2B EC or combat aircraft control, both applications feature prominently when it comes to Al-solutions of natural language data processing. The paper focusses on specific problems such as multilinguality, speech recognition, natural language data processing (e.g. type-token related semantic approaches vs. syntactic generation (K. Aizawa, 1994)) that still need further research in order to secure efficient natural language speech control or business data management.
