Abstract:

The ways of moving from specification to realization in the unique filtorX design environment are discussed. Unlike most traditional design tools, filtorX is structured as a programming language particular to filter design. This technique serves to increase the versatility, and generalize the applications of the program. New methodologies in filter design can be accommodated with simple changes, either through the exchange of simple textual files distributed by other users, or as updates to existing libraries of filtorX functionality. Thus, the functionality of filtorX will not be superseded, as is the case for tools with a series of fixed functions, and thus little ability to evolve. The programmability of filtorX is further supported by a versatile graphical plotting package and an easily customized graphical user-interface. Both are controlled via textual messages and textual files to facilitate user understanding. Together, the three elements create a design environment that is easy to use and enhances.<>
