Abstract:

Galvanic corrosion, cyclic and potentiodynamic polarization experiments were conducted to identify potential cathode current collector materials for the lithium silver vanadium oxide (Li/SVO) cell. Electrochemical tecnhiques were employed to study the corrosion response of 304L stainless steel, commercially pure Grade 1 titanium, and a high chromium ferritic stainless steel, Remanit 4575 Superferrit, in the Li/SVO cell environment. To obtain comparative qualitative information for candidate current collector materials, ASTM methods G5-87, G61-86, and G71-81 were used. Material response are displayed to potentiodynamic and cyclic polarization experiments. Electrochemical results are reported along with actual cell corrosion data.<>
