Abstract:

Two video signal processing technologies based on time base processing are described for application to wideband analog recording VCRs (video cassette recorders). The first, a high-speed response time base corrector using burst injection, was analyzed using a linear model, the phase transient response due to the injection signal was examined theoretically. By using this method, a jitter of 5 ns was attained. The other technology is a tracking control method called the index tracking method. In this method, the reproduced synchronizing signal itself is used as the tracking control signal. Therefore, no exclusive tracking control signal should be recorded on the tape. The performance of this method (e.g. stability, speed of response, and controllability) was examined, and the effectiveness and feasibility of this method is evaluated.<>
