Abstract:
The presence of water treeing degradation has been observed in most polymeric materials used as insulation in power cables. In this paper, a composite theory is proposed that describes a possible mechanism for tree inception and growth. As described here the theory relates to vented trees but it is reasonable to assume that a similar mechanism will be applicable to bow-tie trees. The theory seems to correlate well with existing data mainly concerning tree growth. New experimental data is presented which supports this theory.<>
