Abstract:

The development of highly efficient VLSI technology and rapid advancement of FPGA & CPLD architecture has created a revolution in the design approach of complex electronic systems. The discrete event driven system designs are gradually replaced with highly advanced integrated system design methodology. The present paper describes the VLSI based implementation of pulse code modulated (PCM) multiplexer and encoder schemes for telemetry system. It further analyses the performance as well as functional effectiveness in the telemetry data acquisition system. The proposed system accepts slow varying analog AGC signals from telemetry receivers as well as azimuth and elevation tracking error signals from tracking antenna controller and multiplexes them into single digital PCM stream for real time recording with time stamping on PC based PCM decommutation system. The proposed system has the capability to record this data onto the analog magnetic tape, which can be played back later for analysis.
