Abstract:
Summary form only given. I propose the use of the Stark-Zeeman effect of the hydrogen-like atoms of the heating beam for the local measurement of the poloidal magnetic field H/sub p/ and the corresponding pitch angle /spl Psi//sub p/=arctan (H/sub p//H/sub T/) in toroidal confinement systems with longitudinal current, H/sub T/ is the longitudinal magnetic field. Although it is noted that under the corresponding experimental conditions, the Zeeman splitting is small, nevertheless the stated problem is not purely abstract. The results of show that this effect leads, first of all, not only to some additional splitting, but also to the rotation of the corresponding quantization axis through the angle /spl beta/(n)=arctan(/spl omega///spl omega//sub n/) with respect to the polarization direction of the "pure" Stark's /spl pi/-components (here /spl omega/ and /spl omega//sub n/ are the usual Zeeman and Stark frequencies, n is principal quantum number). And in the case of lines of the Lyman series the rotation angle of the corresponding quantization axis, along which the intensity of the Stark-Zeeman's /spl pi/-components is maximum, may be defined as the sum /spl Psi/*=/spl beta/(n)+/spl Psi//sub p/.
