Abstract:

In modern power systems, integrating smart devices and computer-based control has increased the reliance on data for measuring and controlling grid operations. While this rises in data-dependent approaches, grid control capabilities for quick decisions also introduce vulnerabilities. Disruptions or alterations in the data flow may result in erroneous commands at the control centre, potentially destabilising the entire grid. This paper discussed applying a non-linear active disturbance rejection control strategy to mitigate cyber-attacks targeting load frequency control (LFC). This study analyses and presents a non-linear active disturbance rejection controller (NLADRC) within a power system. Then, various cyber-attacks are examined, including their impact on LFC stability and performance degradation. These attacks include exponential load attacks, random load attacks, and Denial of service attacks. Finally, the effectiveness of the NLADRC approach is demonstrated through simulations in MATLAB/SIMULINK involving load frequency control in the power system.
