Chapter Abstract:

Summary

The centralized model is a common way companies choose to deploy automation. It starts with a central team that takes requests for automations from the rest of the company. The hybrid model still has a centralized delivery team but is augmented by a few additional teams who also deliver automation projects. The distributed model flips the typical central model around. It enables many teams to automate, and the central team focuses only on enablement and governance. The story of PowerCo shows that the right operating model can be the difference between constant failure and widespread success. The widespread use of automation requires buy‐in and support from the top levels of the company.
