Abstract:

This paper presents a novel dual magnetically geared Halbach array-based tubular linear permanent magnet generator (DMG-TLPMG) for a direct-drive wave energy converter (DD-WEC). The proposed generator integrates two tubular linear permanent magnet generators (TLPMG) and two tubular linear magnetic gear machines (TLMGM) into a single machine, thereby maximizing power generation from a single stroke of the translator. This paper gives the constructional details, working principle and design equations of the proposed generator. Further, the performance of the generator is analyzed using 2-D amd 3-D finite element analysis (FEA). The FE results show that the proposed generator exhibits high output voltage, power and force densities.
