Abstract:

The present work reports on the new thermal plasma method of the cesium lead bromide (CsPbBr3 or CPB) synthesis (never applied before). Moreover, since dopants are generally known to affect the properties of materials and considering the use of toxic lead in the CPB host, magnesium ion of the same charge state and approximately the same size has been tried. To determine the effect of Mg doping on the structure, defect states and luminescence properties of CPB a correlated set of experimental techniques such as electron paramagnetic resonance, photo- and radioluminescence as well as X-ray diffraction were applied. Two different modes of synthesis were tested resulting in four samples – two pristine and two Mg doped. Only one sample was pure CPB while in the rest, separately, Cs6O2, PbBr2 and Cs4PbBr6 material phases were revealed. In all cases, the improvement of luminescence as well as the decay constant increase upon the Mg doping were observed. This indicates the incorporation of Mg into the CPB host. The appearance of the Pb3+ ion was assumed as well in all the samples except for the pure CPB phase one.
