Abstract:

Biological effects of electric and magnetic fields have been investigated up to now by performing experiments on complex organisms. In this paper the influence of a 50 Hz magnetic field on the Physcomitrella patens, a moss which behavior and growth in laboratory conditions is well known to biologists, has been investigated. Samples of moss in Petri dishes were arranged in the working volume of Helmholtz coils and various field intensities were applied for periods of 3 -4 weeks. The main conclusion is the fact that 50 Hz ac electromagnetic fields above 0.8 mT ais affecting plant development.
