Abstract:

In this paper, human exposure to the electromagnetic field radiated from a radio base station antenna operating around 900 MHz has been analyzed. A hybrid ray-tracing/FDTD method has been used to evaluate the incident field and the power absorbed in the exposed subject. The base station panel antenna has been characterized by means of its radiation pattern, evaluated with a MoM analysis of its sub-elements. The obtained results show that field levels averaged on a surface equivalent to the vertical body section are well correlated with whole-body averaged SAR, while local SAR values are influenced by local peaks in the incident field. This gives rise to problems when evaluating compliance with basic (primary) limits on the basis of derived (secondary) limits on external field.
