Abstract:

This paper proposes an antibody-mediated immune mechanism for Botnet Defense System (BDS). Conventional BDS uses ethical worms to combat malicious botnets, but new botnet variants are constantly emerging. Imitating the biological immune system, this mechanism uses two types of worms: antibody worms and phagocytic worms. Antibody worms bind to malicious bots and mark them for removal by phagocytic worms, similar to the action of opsonins in vivo. In addition, the mechanism stores information about past threats and deploys specific antibody worms to fight similar botnets when they invade and reduce the threat. Evaluations demonstrated the effectiveness of this method against both the original botnet and its variants.
