Abstract:

This paper presents a dual-band millimeter-wave (mmWave) planar dipole antenna featuring a via-integrated balun and backed by a dual-band artificial magnetic conductor (AMC). A novel dual-band AMC unit cell is designed to achieve zero-reflection phase at both 28 GHz and 38 GHz frequencies relevant to 5G communication. The dipole antenna is backed by a 2×2 AMC array to enhance gain and maintain low specific absorption rate (SAR) values below 1.6 W/Kg. Achieved gain exceeds 6.5 dBi in both frequency bands. Furthermore, this design utilizes a semi-flexible substrate, making it suitable for 5G mmWave wearable applications as well.
