Abstract:
Vanadium redox flow batteries have gained significant attention as a cutting-edge energy storage technology for renewable energy integration. Accurate and real-time dynamic state of charge tracking is essential for assuring optimal performance and efficient control of flow battery systems. This research paper proposes a digital twin-based approach for state of charge estimation of vanadium redox flow battery storage system. The digital twin, a virtual replica of the physical vanadium redox flow battery system, is developed using zero dimensional dynamic model and incorporates real-time data from sensors. The experimental validation has demonstrated that the proposed method provides accurate and robust estimation of the battery dynamic states, enabling efficient operation and maintenance of vanadium redox flow battery systems. This research contributes for development of reliable flow batteries and provides a foundation for intelligent energy management and control strategies in future energy systems.
