Summary

A voltage control oscillator (VCO) is an essential building block of frequency generation in modern communication systems. Internet of Things (IoT) systems and 5G communication require high‐performance, multi‐band communication systems, that demand CMOS‐based LC‐VCO with a tuning feature. The existing LC‐VCO is based on either an active inductor or MOS varactor diode, presented work combines the tuning of both components to develop a high‐frequency band. A higher stage of noise tank circuits is equipped active inductor and switchable to provide a tuning range of radio frequency which is lower and suitable for the wideband application. The capacitive bank is tuned digitally which improves the settling time and the tuning voltage of the active inductor helps to lock at the desirable oscillation frequency and switched capacitor. The measured frequency tuning range is about 7.94% between 38.15 GHz and 40.91 GHz.
