Summary
Electrochemical energy storage devices are of prime interest to the energy research community to confront the energy shortage for the coming years. As the electrodes are the vital components for these devices, efficient electrode materials become the prime requisite that are been used. Among lots of reported electrode materials, particularly for batteries, carbon materials are one of the most attractive materials due to their abundant resource, low cost, good stability, nontoxicity, and high safety. These carbon materials could in turn easily be derived from the biomass which enhances the performances of the batteries when it is utilized as electrode materials. Hence, this chapter summarizes the usage of biomass‐derived carbon as electrode materials in various types of batteries such as lithium‐ion batteries, sodium‐ion batteries, lithium‐sulfur batteries, and zinc‐air batteries. Moreover, the correlation of the structural and morphological characteristics of biomass‐derived carbon materials with the improvement of electrochemical behavior is also discussed in detail which could pave way for using the naturally derived biomass‐derived carbon material in energy storage devices.
