Abstract:
This research introduces an innovative timemode moving average filter (MAF) tailored for utilization in time-mode signal processing systems. The filter’s operational framework is rooted in the principles of the time-mode Finite Impulse Response (FIR) filters. To illustrate its design, three MAF filters comprising by 7, 10, and 13 taps respectively are designed and evaluated using a 65nm CMOS process and a 1.2V supply voltage. A sampling frequency of 5MHz is employed, accompanied by a modest current consumption of (M+1)9.5μA where M is the number of taps (e.g., for 13 taps the current consumption is 133μA). The proposed filter stands out for its simplicity and efficient noise reduction capabilities. It serves as an ideal option for time-mode systems seeking effective noise filtering without escalating overall complexity and power consumption.
