Chapter Abstract:

Digital forensics is a branch of forensic science that has been growing at a high pace. It mainly focuses on gathering resources, preserving those resources, analyzing them, and then forming or creating appropriate results and reports to present the investigation in chronological order to face crime. Digital forensics tries to visualize and handle the already existing or upcoming threats that the internet and the cyber world are vulnerable or prone to fall under.The application of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AIML) in the field of digital forensics will greatly help in maximizing accuracy and minimizing the chances or probability of the occurrence of an error. Applying AIML algorithms will not only increase efficiency but also reduce the use of intensive human labor. In this chapter, we will be discussing about the application of AIML and how it facilitates digital investigations. This chapter gives an overview on the advantages and drawbacks that investigator faces during investigating crime cases related to forensics.
