Abstract:
We propose a heterogeneous CDMA (H-CDMA) protocol, a time code division multiple access (TCDMA) protocol consisting of a centralized single-allocation function (CSF), a centralized multiple-allocation function (CMF), and a distributed multiple-allocation function (DMF). CSF or CMF can achieve high throughput and support differentiated service quality in conventional cellular networks without relaying capability or in dynamic cellular networks with multihop relaying capability, respectively, while CSF combined with DMF can transform a conventional cellular network into a dynamic cellular network. Moreover, DMF can considerably increase the scalability and efficiency of CMF by employing them concurrently. H-CDMA is designed for medium access control (MAC) in 4G wireless systems that integrate cellular networks, ad hoc networks, and wireless LANs, and provides an evolutionary path from the third-generation (3G) wireless systems to 3.5G and fourth-generation (4G) wireless networks such as ad hoc cellular networks (ACENETs).
