Abstract:

This paper presents the development process of a wireless power transfer (WPT) system based on defected ground structure (DGS) designed for biomedical applications. The primary objective of the design process is to develop a compact system that is achieved with a DGS-based resonator of a 25-by-25 sq. mm area. Furthermore, the WPT system operates at 405 MHz, which is appropriate for biomedical implants. In the realization process, the biological tissue of 10 mm thickness is added on top of the receiver side of the system to ensure a more practical representation. Finally, the designed WPT demonstrates power transfer efficiency of 46% at 20 mm.
