Abstract:

Fabrication methods of a Rare Earth Barium Copper Oxide Coated Conductor (REBCO-CC) Rutherford-type cable, called FReTC (Flat Round-Edge Former Tape Cable), were investigated. Multiple cables bundled with REBCO stacked tapes were directly wound on a former slightly thicker than the REBCO tape width. The FReTC cabling technology is discussed, focusing on fabricating a multi-strand cable of fine-filament REBCO tapes. A 12 sub-cable FReTC conductor composed of 60 (5 stacked tapes × 12 sub-cables), 2 mm width, 30 μm substrate REBCO tapes has been fabricated with the termination developed for a FReTC conductor. The characteristics of the cable were tested. In addition, width-bending characteristics of thin 30 μm substrate REBCO tapes were discussed and compared with the previously reported results for 50 μm substrate REBCO tapes.
