Abstract:

Chillers are crucial equipment in cooling plants requiring a reliable and cost-effective control technique. To address the complexity and importance of chiller systems, this paper applies advanced multivariable control techniques, namely, Linear Quadratic Integral (LQI) and Model Predictive Control (MPC) on a state-space chiller model. A comparison is made with the traditional PID control method, highlighting significant improvements achieved through advanced control techniques in terms of 1) trajectory tracking 2) regulation and 3) measured input disturbance rejection.
