Abstract:
Reduction of frequency fluctuation in an interconnected power system is always considered as a measure of power system stability. In this paper, a new control strategy combining PID controller and lead-lag compensator is proposed for effective load frequency control (LFC) in a two-area power system. The proposed control strategy is designed to modulate system frequency by continuously adjusting control signals which is fed to the generators based on frequency error. The simulation studies are performed using MATLAB/Simulink to showcase the efficacy of the newly proposed control strategy. The simulation studies verify that the proposed control strategy improves the performance of a two-area power system with respect to frequency deviation, tie-line power variation, and settling time, respectively.
