Abstract:
Aircrafts, a peculiar machine that ushered humanity to break all lineages of physical capabilities were developed by Wright brothers during early 20th century. Since their introduction, the biggest turmoil to make them accessible as a viable source of transport was associated with native flight control. Aircrafts systems, both commercial or defence, entered a new era with transition from traditional Mechano - Hydraulic control systems to Electrical flight control systems, known as Fly-by-wire. Fly-by-wire flight control system and its incorporation to modern aircrafts share an interesting journey which is aimed to be illustrated in this paper. The paper aims to provide historical perspective of how systems transitioned from mechanical control to electrical, the very kindling ideation, its pre requisite studies prior its implementation, to the transient need of a generalized system, how they evolved to existing systems which includes the previous and related work on fly-by-wire and the associated array of challenges, first commercial and military system integration and rendition of actual industrial implementations of technology and aims to shed light on prospective evolution of the technology for future systems.
