Delineating the Cloud and Edge‐Native Technologies for Intelligent Oil and Gas Systems

We are going to look at the fundamentals of edge computing in this chapter and particularly how that evolving trend and overall market adoption in IoT continues. There are a lot of expected advancements in this space. To fully appreciate where the industry is heading, it is critical to have some context and background of where and why this started and how over time it was adopted more increasingly in the IoT space and what some of those specific challenges are. We will be describing the pillar of cloud and edge native technologies in more detail before spending moving on to edge computing, its advantages, challenges, and opportunities looking ahead.
