Abstract:

Folk embroidery comes in a variety of styles in the Jingchu region (now in Hubei, China). Folk embroidery in this region not only has distinct craft characteristics and artistic value but also directly or indirectly reflects Jingchu culture. There are more and more related studies on Jingchu folk embroidery nowadays, but there are few unified and comprehensive studies. This paper conducts literature reviews and takes Jingchu folk embroidery as a starting point to sort out and analyze its research status in five aspects, all from the perspective of intangible cultural heritage: folk culture, artistic characteristics, craftsmanship, design application, inheritance, to better understand the value of Jingchu folk embroidery culture. It also serves as a theoretical foundation and a guide for future folk embroidery research methods.
