Abstract:
The prospect of an exhausted supply of address space in the current Internet Protocol IPv4, prompted the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) to start a next generation of IP projects in the last two decades. The resulting IPv6 offers a 128 bit address space and other upgrades that support the auto configuration of new hosts. Due to a lack of information on design and implementation, network designers and engineers are reluctant to adopt IPv6 in existing enterprises. An IPv6 test network or test-bed is to be deployed in UiTM in order to gain experience and confidence before integrating it with existing IP networks. It will also become a platform for various experiments on IPv6 link characterization and other basic applications of the IPv6 network in UiTM. This paper describes practical aspects of setting up a native IPv6 network in UiTM, as well as evaluating network link quality.
