Abstract:

The metaverse has gained popularity in recent years, being utilized in gaming and businesses due to its many benefits. However, security risks have become a major concern, making appropriate risk assessment essential. While the authors have previously conducted risk assessments for gaming using the metaverse, applying conventional risk assessment methods to metaverse business applications, which require higher security and safety, has proven difficult. Therefore, the authors developed the SVR (System - Virtual - Real) risk factor extraction method, which not only visualizes system processing and data flows but also visualizes the state of the virtual world and the surrounding environment in the real world as a diagram, plotting risk factors in parallel. Results from applying the method to VR meetings have shown that it is effective, extracting four times more risk factors than conventional methods and ten times more if focused on metaverse or VR-specific factors.

I. Introduction

In recent years, the use of metaverse has been increasing in games and business. Metaverse is described as an "online shared space and service that combines physical reality, augmented reality, and virtual reality" [1]. Users participate in a 3D computer-generated virtual world constructed online with their own avatars, which are their own virtual selves, from all over the world. They interact with each other and play various games, engage in economic activities such as creating and selling goods within the service, and live a new life in the metaverse as another "reality".
