Abstract:
Expanding upon our previous experiment in Monterey, California, the Coastal Land-Air-Sea Interaction (CLASI) group seeks to explore and characterize additional coastal boundary locations. Extending our range in height from our previous experiment, this experiment takes us to the coastal boundary of Florida, specifically around Topsail Hill Preserve State Park in Santa Rosa Beach. Our drone was deployed throughout the month of February to observe and record how electromagnetic (EM) signals travel in different types of environments spanning from standard to ducting conditions. Our goal for this experiment is to further investigate duct estimation and analyze sea surface roughness using our two-channel drone-based software defined radio receiver system. With this extended height, our drone profiles will have more null and peaks, allowing us to better compare theoretical models of sea surface roughness such as Miller-Brown and Ament.
