Chapter Abstract:
In this chapter, it is shown how to build the physical models of power converters using MATLAB/Simulink. The chapter describes how to build the real‐time model of the power converters in the OPAL‐RT simulator. It explores experimentally how power electronics systems can be controlled using the developed control techniques. A single‐phase three‐level T‐type rectifier in the laboratory set‐up consists of a programmable regenerative grid simulator, which is used to emulate the grid voltage. The tasks of controller algorithm design, editing and simulation are accomplished using MATLAB/Simulink in the host computer. OPAL‐RT simulator can be used not only for the plant simulation, but also in a rapid control prototyping mode as controller, where the researcher can design any control algorithm on Simulink, adds the necessary I/Os, and quickly upload it to the real‐time computer.
