Abstract:

Pulse wave signals (PWS) can be utilized for the evaluation of various physiological parameters such as Pulse Rate, Respiratory Rate, Heart Rate Variability, and many more. In the present study, Fibre Bragg Grating Arrays (FBGA) have been employed to evaluate the pulse rate from the acquired signal. Enhanced sensing range, local cross-referencing, and noise reduction through data averaging are some of the enhanced features provided by the arrays as compared to the FBGs. Focusing on the radial region of the artery, pulse wave signals were acquired and were tested for similarity using coherence. Affirming a higher degree of similarity between individual signals and with averaged signals, heart rate was evaluated with an error of 2.85 percent.
