Abstract:
The non-formal (open/distance) education has progressively adopted new technologies leading to the development of interactive multimedia courses and experiments like the virtual classroom. However, the new technology poses problems of equity and raises the bogey of digital divide. This paper was motivated by a UNESCO project at IGNOU on using Radio Vision for imparting education. Enthused by the success, a project on the development of multimodal delivery was undertaken using the same core inputs for Radio, Radio Vision, Multimedia, Online learning and Virtual Classroom. These modes are cost-effective and provide wider access. The outreach is vast and effective. The various modes provide high motivation and sufficient reinforcement. The material can be used by students of other universities too.
