Abstract:
Air heating is a phenomenon caused by severe gas molecules conflicting during a high-speed flight, which puts higher performance requirements on the materials that constitute the outside shells of aircraft. The Gyroid surface is a three-dimensional curved surface that owns a fully connected inner space that can only be fabricated by 3D printing technology. In this article, an active thermal-stream-control aircraft shell infilled with the Gyroid surface is designed and manufactured to conquer the challenge announced by air heating. Different infill densities Gyroid shells are tested under 230 degrees Celsius hot wind with various thermal-stream-control approaches. The results show that with the 15% density Gyroid infill, the aircraft shell offers a comprehensive capability of thermal control and structure stiffness.
