Abstract:

In this article a comparative study between two and three component color mixing of LEDs for low cost, wide range tunable CCT indoor lighting system has been reported. Five different combinations of LED luminaires have been considered; among them warm white (2800 K) - cool white (6000 K), warm white (2800 K) - red (630 nm) - blue (467 nm), natural white (4000 K) - red (630 nm) - blue (467 nm), cool white (6000 K) - red (630 nm) - blue (467 nm) luminaires are based on two component color mixing and warm white (2800 K) - green (527 nm) - blue (467 nm) luminaire is based on three component color mixing. These luminaires have been analyzed by both CIE CRI method and ANSI/IES TM-30-18 method. The results show that three component color mixing method is more effective for wide range tunable CCT lighting source over two component color mixing method. The warm white - green - blue luminaire provides a wide range of CCTs from 2800 K to 20000 K with maximum CRI (Ra) of 93, IES (Rf) of 87 and minimum Du; value of 0.0000 and all the parameters are in the tolerance limit as specified in the ANSI C78.377-2008.
