Abstract:
With the development of informatization and intelligentization, more and more university libraries have purchased a number of self-service borrowing-returning machines(SSBRMs) to replace manual services and improve the quality of service. To optimize the SSBRMs configuration, this paper introduces an M/M/c queuing system with asynchronous vacations to model the service of these SSBRMs, selects the average number of readers in the system, the number of SSBRMs on vacation and the average waiting time of readers as performance indicators, and solves and simulates the model. The results show that the performance of the system can be improved when the number of SSBRMs allowed vacations. Therefore, this model not only improves the satisfaction of readers, but also provides a theoretical basis for the optimization of the SSBRMs.
