Abstract:
The national capital Delhi and many other big congested cities especially Chennai not only has a high population but also has a high population density. As the population is high, many people own vehicles either two-wheeler and four-wheeler leading to traffic congestion and inability to commute from one location to another. Through the analysis of the Delhi Metro Rail Network, predicting the most congested places and suggesting some measures to reduce the congestion and making it easy to commute has been made possible. The computation is done by taking every station in the Delhi metro map as nodes and the connections as edges. The analysis shows the centrality measures such as degree centrality, betweenness centrality of the whole network and centrality with respect to a single node. Based on the results, the node with the highest centrality measure is the most congested network, meaning that many people commute in that network and that node has to be decongested. Measures such as edge betweenness and eigen value centrality identifies the key station on the network.
